Introduction Journal JMS 550

My name is Tyler McFarland and I am a senior at San Diego State University. I am pursuing a degree in journalism with the hopes of covering sports as my career choice.

I have been married to my wife, Raechelle, for two years, but we have been together for nearly 10 years. We have a daughter named Kayden who just turned eight years old two weeks ago. We are expecting another child sometime in August or September this year.

I want to become a better writer and a more efficient story writer. I hope this class gives me tools that will benefit me in my career choice going forward. My preference would be to do radio or broadcast while covering sports. Maybe a podcast or a radio show to talk about sports with other professionals and listeners.

I have become more interested in photography over the last couple years and am interested to learn more about how to incorporate photos with the stories I am writing. I am taking Photojournalism this semester as well and am looking forward to learning how to better use different camera settings to get the best pictures to accompany my stories.

I am looking forward to learning many different techniques to enhance my writing skills and abilities in order to give myself a head start when going into my new career.
